By now, people who try to stay semi-informed about
happenings in the news have heard about the new CEO selected to run General
Motors. HER name (yep – first woman to
ever head up a U.S. auto company) is Mary Barra – a 33-year employee who
started with GM when she was 18, and has literally worked her way to the top.
She definitely has the creds AND the experience for her new
job. But what I’m most impressed with is……
the gal has TASTE!
From the Raleigh N&O:
When
Barra starts her new job Jan. 15, she will lead a company that's made nearly
$20 billion since emerging from bankruptcy in 2010, much of it from the cars
and trucks she helped develop.
The
51-year-old executive has been in charge of design, engineering and quality for
all GM vehicles and has shepherded most of the company's recent new vehicle
introductions. Under her command, GM rolled out brawny new full-size pickup trucks, the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra,
and the Chevrolet Impala full-size car,
which earned the highest score for a sedan in testing by Consumer Reports
magazine.
She also led development of the new Chevy Corvette and
several Cadillac models. Her POV is a
Cadillac….
NOT A SINGLE MENTION OF THE CHEVY VOLT!
Apparently Ms. Barra likes muscle and luxury
cars, and apparently there is still a market for both.
I find her rise to the very top of General Motors beyond
interesting, especially since the government just sold the taxpayers’ stock in
the company for a $10 BILLION dollar loss.
Somehow I don’t see a Chairman Obama selecting this lady!
YOU GO GIRL!
On a personal note - just a darn shame that the Vette has so little trunk space!
No junk in the Vette's trunk means more speed
