RAMBLINGS AND GRUMBLINGS

Christmas has come and gone, and I hope everyone has a wonderful and joyous one.  Our house was blessed with family and friends, lots of laughter and love – can’t get much better. 

I’ve been thinking about the coming year and trying to be optimistic, but it’s taking all my energy to even come close.  I’ve finally resigned myself to another four years of Obama’s destruction.  I think if I hear the words ‘fiscal cliff’ one more time my head will explode.  I think that’s where we are headed, and no matter what happens, Obama will blame the Republicans. 

I have a two-fold plan I would offer Boehner and the house.  Whatever Obama wants, we should bring it to a vote in the House – and ALL REPUBLICANS should  ‘ABSTAIN’.  Let the Democrats pass the bill alone so the consequences will occur without a single Republican vote.  The Dems would OWN IT finally.  It’s not much but it won’t enrage the base like caving to Obama would, and it COULD help us hold the House in 2014.  Lordy – if the Dems take back the House in two years, we will see Democrats Gone Wild!

The other part of my plan would be…. since Obama has said publically if he doesn’t get what he wants from the House, he will use his inaugural speech AND his state of the Union speech to blame the Republicans… BRING IT!  And the minute he starts in with the blame game they should en masse GET UP AND WALK OUT!  That would be the headline the next day – NOT the context of the speech – and the BSM (bull shit media) would be forced to cover the walkout.  It wouldn’t do much but make a statement, but it would bring the base to their feet cheering.  (At least THIS member of the base would have something to cheer about!)

That will get me through January 20^th.

My long term advice to the Republicans:  It’s time to take the Democrat ‘machine’ seriously and to take a few pages from their playbook.  First – they will do anything to win…. But mainly they identify their most dangerous opponents and take ‘em out!  Look what they did to George Allen in Virginia, over a stupid ass word (macaca).  They have already started on Marco Rubio, because they see him as the biggest threat in 2016.  It’s time to start destroying the DEMOCRATS!  There is plenty of horsekrap to hang around Hillary’s neck – START NOW!  Same for Michelle Obama, because I seriously think SHE may run in ’16.  Yeah – makes you wanna puke – right?  We need to identify the up and coming Dems and take them OUT!  Romney held back and by the time he seriously got in the game, Obama’s team had identified him as a murdering (killed the lady with cancer) rich white guy who hated dogs and didn’t care about the middle class (because of HIS stupid comment in a private setting about the ‘47% being lost to him already).  The Dems say stupid shit all the time – WE HAVE TO PASS THE BILL TO SEE WHAT’S IN IT comes immediately to mind – I had no idea how completely true THAT one was.

Just a few rambling thoughts for the coming year.  We should pray DAILY for the health of the SCOTUS judges, especially Scalia. The high court is a disaster waiting to happen if Obama gets four MORE appointments.  We should also pray that the Republicans in the House and Senate grow a set…. women, too.  It would also be nice if they would remember why they are there!

MY JACK REACHER!

I'm a Lee Child fan - have been since the first of his books I read.  I love his recurring character - Jack Reacher.  A new movie entitled 'Jack Reacher' is set for release today.  Tom Cruise is playing the title character.

This is possibly the worse casting decision EVER to come out of Hollywood.

Reacher is a 6'-5" tall solid hunk of muscle, a former hard core MP.  Tom Cruise is an over-the-hill character actor, 5'-7" tall - I can't wait to see him head-butt an a bad guy!  The entire rest of the cast must be midgets - or they had to shoot this movie from a gopher hole or a high rise platform to make Cruise look like a serious hunk.  Lee Child has written series of Reacher books (he's been my favorite author for a long time), and I'm sure Cruise is hoping this movie will turn him into the next James Bond (without the cars and accessories, as Reacher only travels with a toothbrush).  On the other hand......

N.C. TEA PARTY PAC RAFFLING AN AR-15

ASHEVILLE, N.C. NBC-17 News

An Asheville chapter of the Tea Party is offering North Carolina residents a chance to win a rifle similar to that which was reportedly used in the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre.  The Asheville Tea Party posted the raffle for a DPMS Panther Oracle AR-15 to its website Monday.  The raffle, which includes two 30-round clips and a carrying case,  is only available to residents of North Carolina and winners must be able to pass all required background checks.  According to a spokesman for the ATP, this raffle was planned prior to the shootings in Newtown, CT.

President Obama is actively supporting the reinstatement of the 1994 assault weapons ban, which expired in 2004. 

Why is it – when there is a tragedy involving guns, such as the Newtown massacre, the left rushes to take the guns away from the people who didn’t commit the crime?

AP:  The leaders of an independent panel that blamed systematic State Department management and leadership failures for gross security lapses in the deadly Sept. 11 attack on a U.S. diplomatic mission in Libya will explain their findings to Congress on Wednesday.

The two most senior members of the Accountability Review Board  - retired Ambassador Thomas Pickering and a former Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman, Adm. Mike Mullen - are set to testify behind closed doors before the House and Senate foreign affairs committees on the classified findings of their harshly critical report.

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton was to have appeared at Thursday's hearing but canceled after fainting and sustaining a concussion last week while recovering from a stomach virus that dehydrated her. Clinton is under doctors' orders to rest.

BEND OVER AND GRAB'EM

My local newspaper, the Raleigh News & Observer, started a series on Sunday about what might be called unintended consequences of Obamacare.  Look around your town - has the sign on the outside of your doctor's office changed in the last two years?  Is he/she now affiliated with a local or regional hospital?  Here in the triangle area there is a huge competition between Duke Medical Center and UNC Chapel Hill Memorial hospital to suck up a variety of small practices and bring them under the big umbrella of the university's medical system.  Even the mammoth REX Hospital in Raleigh is now listed as part of UNC Health Care.

This is more evident in the rural areas.  For instance, my parents live in a town with a population well under 2,000.  There are three doctors there - two are practically dead but haven't fallen over - the other one is a young family man who moved there from Montana (geezus he must have been LOST).  The three practices all take Medicare/Medicaid and between them and the little 44-bed hospital that's been there forever, medical care for the townspeople has been very available and very reasonably priced.  Last spring, the signs on the hospital and the doctors' offices changed to include the word 'VIDANT'.  All four medical facilities are now part of the greater East Carolina University Medical system, the largest medical facility east of I-95.  Why?  My mom asked her doctor.  His one-word answer:  MONEY.  

• “Prices are increasing, often for no other reason than the sign on the door changed,” said [a] spokesman for America’s Health Insurance Plans, a trade group representing the insurance industry.
• Here’s why: Medicare and private insurers pay more for outpatient care – which includes an allowed facility fee for hospital infrastructure – than for the same procedure in a doctor’s office, which cannot charge a facility fee. A hospital can increase revenue by acquiring a practice and changing the billing to outpatient. Or the hospital can simply convert its doctors’ offices to hospital facilities.

Do the math.  By being part of a 'hospital' system, which can charge more for procedures in addition to the facility fee, costs to the patient have more than doubled.  This will cause a necessary rise in private AND government insurance costs.  I mean - who is the government going to pass these increases along to?  Look for your Medicare premiums to skyrocket.  Look for your private insurance premiums to ..... skyrocket.  Mom's doctor also told her he got his insurance payments WEEKS faster being part of VIDANT than he did as a private practice. You can't blame the doctors - it's about survival.

What if...... the federal government had never gotten into the health care business.

JABBA THE HUTT SAYS OBAMA SHOULD 'EXPLOIT' THE NEWTOWN MASSACRE FOR STRONGER GUN CONTROL LAWS

A veteran Democratic lawmaker believes the nation will go along with stronger gun control laws if President Obama “exploits” the Newtown, Conn., tragedy and nudges Congress to action.

Rep. Jerrold Nadler, who represents portions of New York City, said he was encouraged by Mr. Obama’s statement on Friday afternoon that the mass shooting, which claimed the lives of 20 young children, requires “meaningful action” by Congress, but hopes those words turn into concrete legislation.

Mr. Nadler was asked whether the Newtown tragedy could be the turning point in many Democrats’ longstanding struggle to enact stronger gun laws.

“I think we will be there if the president exploits it, and otherwise we’ll go on to the next” incident, Mr. Nadler said.

Dozens dead........... mostly children..... there is not justification...... no excuse.... no REASON for such tragedy.  Guns didn't do this........ an insane man did this... I will never understand - I DON'T WANT TO UNDERSTAND... I want it to go away!!!!!!! I want it NOT to have happened.

GOOD NEWS FOR A CHANGE - ABOUT A SELFISH 2 %er

This article was in the Raleigh N&O this past Monday, and it’s one that will make you smile.

Late last summer, UNC Hospitals ear, nose and throat nurse Katie Sams was talking by phone to her husband, Alex, a U.S. Army reservist serving at Camp Leatherneck in southern Afghanistan, and noticed that he had nasal congestion.

“He said they’d had a lot of sandstorms, and he was having trouble breathing because so much had gotten into his nose and sinuses,” she said.

The next day, she emailed Dr. Brent Senior, an ENT surgeon she works with, asking whether he thought the sales rep for the sinus rinse kits they used at the hospital might have a few extras they could send to the soldiers in Alex’s unit.

Dr. Senior was going to be seeing the CEO of a California company that made the kits (NeilMED) a few days later and mentioned what his nurse had asked about.  Next thing you know, Katie and her boss are the middle ‘men’ in a $2 million dollar program for NeilMED to donate as many as 100,000 sinus wash kits and 100,000 bottles of a nasal-moisturizing gel spray to troops in dusty Afghanistan, Iraq and other duty stations overseas.

LET THE DEMOCRATS GO OVER THE FISCAL CLIFF ALONE!

I've been listening to Rush today, he said something that makes 100% sense - politically, economically and fiscally:  ALL REPUBLICANS SHOULD VOTE 'PRESENT' ON OBAMA'S TAX INCREASE.  FORCE THE DEMOCRATS TO RAISE TAXES ON THEIR OWN!  

Think of it.  If Boehner caves, the base will abandon ship and stay home in 2014 and the Democrats will retake the House.  That would be a disaster.

But a vote of 'present' is NOT a yes vote.  The Democrats will all vote FOR the increases. LET THE ASSHATS OWN IT!

Write Rep. Boehner and tell him not to cave - to vote 'PRESENT!  Look at all the years it worked for Obama!

Just a word to those liberals out there gnashing their teeth to raise taxes on the job creators in this country.  Corporations do NOT pay taxes – they are NOT people.  People pay taxes.  And when taxes are raised on these ‘people’ they are ALWAYS passed on to the consumer.  That would be your average Walmart shopper or automobile driver or grocery shopper. 

California just voted to raise THEIR OWN taxes on the high earners.  Now who do you think voted for that one?  The high earners?  Seriously? 

Rich folks got there one of two ways:  they inherited wealth (the Kennedy clan) or they EARNED it (Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Sam Walton).  BTW - wealth isn’t taxed – only earnings.  The Kennedy’s probably pay less tax than Joe the Plumber.  When the government raises taxes on the job creators (Gates, Jobs, Walton) they have two choices:  pass that increase down the supply chain, which raises consumer prices – or – reduce their operating expenses (i.e. close stores, reduce labor costs).  The SMALL businesses don’t have the wiggle room of the large corporations.  The Pizzeria owner will opt not to hire new workers.  Why should he grow his business, increase his income, move into a higher tax bracket, and pay more money to the government.  Why would the mom and pop who have been in the HVAC business for years hire more technicians so they can meet the consumer demands, and cross the magic threshold where they are required to provide Obamacare?  They will opt not to grow.

Circle back to California.  There is an article by Ben Feldman suggesting that Jobs are NOT leaving California.

“the evidence indicates that most of the jobs lost in recent years did not move outside the state as much as they simply vanished during an unusually tough downturn in the business cycle.”

Ben – why is there a downturn in the business cycle?  Could it BE government regulation and higher taxes?  The headline on Breitbart two days ago reads:

 California State Controller John Chiang has announced that total state revenue for the month of November 2012 fell $806.8 million, or 10.8%, below budget.

Democrats thought they could hammer “the rich” by convincing voters to pass Proposition 30 to create the highest state income tax in the nation. But it now appears that high income earners have already “voted with their feet” by moving themselves and their businesses out of state, resulting in over $1 billion shortfall in corporate and income taxes last month and the beginning of a new financial crisis.  

We have a president, who has never held a private sector job, let alone run a business, and who has apparently never taken Economics 101, hell bent and determined to turn the entire country into California.  There are ‘pretend’ negotiations going on in Washington to avoid a fiscal catastrophe on January 1. President Obama is so involved and focused on these negotiations that he’s leaving for a $1BILLION dollar Christmas vacation in Hawaii (Dec. 17 – Jan. 6, 21 days worth).

THE SIXTEENTH AMENDMENT

The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration.

 It was ratified on February 3, 1913.

The following October, the Revenue Act of 1913 was signed into law by President Woodrow Wilson.  The Act also provided for the reinstitution of a federal income tax… But less than 1% of the population paid FEDERAL income taxes.

The incomes of couples exceeding $4,000, as well as those of single persons earning $3,000 or more, were subject to a one percent federal tax.  Further, the measure provided a progressive tax structure, meaning that high income earners were required to pay at higher rates.

It would require only a few years for the federal income tax to become the chief source of income for the government…

'TIS THE SEASON

I happened to be in the car this morning listening to Glenn Beck when a man called in to talk about the hypocrisy of Obama taking a $4 MILLION dollar vacation - three weeks in Hawaii this Christmas.  The man said he and his wife both worked but they were classified as poor.  They had 2 kids living at home and got NO government assistance.  Said he didn't WANT any.

Their oldest child was married and living in Atlanta and had had this man's FIRST GRANDCHILD on Thanksgiving Day.  He said he and his wife had to make a very hard decision when the child was born:  Spend $400 to drive to Atlanta to see this baby.... or forgo the trip because they needed the $400 to pay their bills.  He wasn't complaining that he couldn't go see the new grandbaby.  He was angry that he was paying taxes for the king and queen to travel literally like royalty.  I had to pull into a parking lot because I was crying so hard I couldn't see to drive.

This is America.... MY America.  If I had been able to get the man's address I would have sent him the money.  Happily, Beck is sending him the $400.  I weep at the pride in that new grandfather's voice - pride that he was not on the dole.  What has happened to our national pride?

MULTIPLY CLOSES DOWN AT MIDNIGHT TONIGHT

Today’s a sad day for me – a social networking site I’ve been on for several years is closing down at midnight tonight.  It started in 2004, about the same time Facebook his the scene and it just never took off like FB, which I never understood because it has a fantastic format.  I had been on Yahoo360 and when it announced it was closing down a crowd of folks I’d come to know all migrated to Multiply and we’ve been there for nearly five years.  Multiply was an upgrade of 360, with more emphasis on blogging and media sharing.  It was free, or you could pay $20/year for a ‘premium’ account and not have the ad banners on your page.  I met more wonderful people there and when the closing was announced, everyone began to scurry around looking for another site to land on.

One of the Multiply guys and his wife created a new site called ANOTHERBLOGSPOT, and many have gone there.  They’ve done this on their own time and out of the goodness of their heart, and it improves all the time.  I think 90% of their members are Multiply immigrants.  The format is a cross between Multiply and Facebook, and the developers are always open to suggestions on how to make it better.  It’s open to everyone so feel free to check it out.

Lots of people went to Blogster, and a few went to Ipernity.  I came here to blogger/blogspot a couple of years ago because they had a provision for adult content, which Multiply would close you down for.  I love the format here but I miss the social interaction/chat features of the other networking sites.  But Blogger has so many interesting, funny and thoughtful writers that I will be HERE until they close this down.  Blogger also doesn’t have the pervs and stalkers the social sites seem to attract and that’s a huge plus!

So today marks the end of a fun run with some fantastic people.  Best wishes to each and every one of the friends and acquaintances I’ve met along the way.

LET'S HEAR IT FOR SEQUESTRATION!

Sequestration was never intended to be good fiscal policy. It was never intended to be policy, period. When Congress passed the Budget Control Act in 2011, they formed the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction, more commonly known as the Super Committee, to cut nearly a trillion dollars from the federal budget. Sequestration – a fancy word for painful cuts to every area of the 2013 budget – was a failsafe in case Super Committee negotiations broke down.

The plan was simple: By passing sequestration into law, Congress was creating a deterrent against its own gridlock. The law was so unpalatable to both sides – Democrats wanting to avoid cuts to social programs, and Republicans wanting to safeguard defense spending – that theoretically, everyone would negotiate in good faith to avoid it. [1]

The Super Committee was a super failure, as probably was the intention.  They could barely agree on where people would sit at the table.

 

Under sequestration, an amount of money equal to the difference between the cap set in the Budget Resolution and the amount actually appropriated is "sequestered" by the Treasury and not handed over to the agencies to which it was originally appropriated by Congress. In theory, every agency has the same percentage of its appropriation withheld in order to take back the excessive spending on an "across the board" basis. However, Congress has chosen to exempt certain very large programs from the sequestration process (for example, Social Security and certain parts of the Defense budget), and the number of exempted programs has tended to increase over time -- which means that sequestration would have to take back gigantic shares of the budgets of the remaining programs in order to achieve the total cutbacks required, virtually crippling the activities of the unexempted programs. [2]

Congress, by setting up the Super Committee, absolved themselves, except for these 12, of having to make tough decisions on spending cuts with a huge election less than a year away.  I hate the expression ‘kick the can down the road’ but that is exactly what this committee did.  Now it’s time to pay the piper.  As things stand today, if Congress does nothing with less than 35 days until the end of the year, $1.2 TRILLION dollars will be cut automatically from the federal budget.  That’s about a 10% cut across the board.  All programs except Social Security and a few things on the Dept of Defense list will feel the cuts.  Now this SOUNDS like a lot, but….. we have until 2021 to realize this ‘cut’.

The entire REPUBLICAN PARTY campaigned on CUTTING SPENDING.   Well duh -  what is the flipping problem? 

The Bush era tax cuts will go.  And the FICA payroll tax will again be withheld from everyone’s salary.  Well, dudes and dudettes, guess what.  FICA is the ONLY funding source for Social Security and Medicare.  Zip, zero, nada has gone in to THAT for the last two years – and both Medicare and SSI have been on a slippery slope for a couple of decades.  These tax INCREASES can be fiddled with by Congress if they so desire, but Mr. Owebama has said he would veto anything that didn’t include raising taxes on the top 2% of wage earners, so we are probably at a Mexican standoff on that.  As an aside, those 2% of the vile, selfish ‘rich’ employ 40+% of the WORKING public.  When they have to pay more in tax on their earnings, in addition to meeting the requirements of Obamacare…. Well – please raise your hand if you think they will be hiring.  ....waiting...... waiting....... OK - Those with your hands in the air are either stupid or ignorant. (There IS a difference).

I WELCOME SEQUESTRATION!  Bring it!  It will do what our Congress is unable, incapable, and unwilling to do – and that is CUT FEDERAL SPENDING!

Elections have consequences.  OWEbama won.  It's HIS move - we do NOT have to start giving away the family silver because of it.  We ran on cutting spending.  If we sit real still and wait.... the spending cuts will be automatic.

APPARENTLY DISGUST IS NO LONGER A CONSIDERATION FOR BLASPHEMY

The painting is called “Truth” – and shows the president with his arms outstretched. A crown of thorns rests on his head.

It was originally supposed to debut nearly four years ago at New York City’s Union Square. But that event was cancelled due to public outrage.

APPARENTLY OUR OUTRAGE NO LONGER MATTERS…… THIS IS DISGUSTING BEYOND WORDS!  I have a suggestion where that crown of thorns belongs!

WHY WE VOTED....

We Americans got so tired of being thought of as dumbasses by the rest of the world that we went to the polls this November and removed all doubt.

MOURNING IS OVER… MORNING IS HERE

 We as a nation are being taken to the woodshed by of all things – PRAVDA!  How is it that the Russian press can see so clearly what our own press cannot?  Could it be because they’ve been there, done that?

Obama has been re-elected for a 2nd term by an illiterate society and he is ready to continue his lies of less taxes while he raises them. He gives speeches of peace and love in the world while he promotes wars as he did in Egypt, Libya and Syria. He plans his next war is with Iran as he fires or demotes his generals who get in the way.

President Vladimir Putin could never have imagined anyone so ignorant or so willing to destroy their people like Obama much less seeing millions vote for someone like Obama. They read history in America don't they? Alas, the schools in the U.S. were conquered by the Communists long ago and history was revised thus paving the way for their Communist presidents. Obama has bailed out those businesses that voted for him and increased the debt to over 16 trillion with an ever increasing unemployment rate especially among blacks and other minorities.  All the while promoting his agenda.

It’s time to wake up and smell the coffee. 

For the immediate future, the Senate ‘leader’, Harry Reid, is intent on shutting down all semblance of debate.  The Republicans there may as well go home for two years and save the taxpayers some money.

And we have a House of Representatives that is nothing more than butt boys (and girls) for Obama.  This president will continue to blame all his failures on them regardless of what they do.  If they don’t give him his tax plan (LMAO – i.e. raise taxes on the producers) by blocking action, a gazillion taxes will kick in in January, WORKING Americans will have a krap fit, the economy will tank, and the Republicans will be blamed by Obama and his lackeys in the media.  On the other hand, if they agree to Obama’s demands – the economy WILL tank and the Republicans will be rightly blamed, campaigned against vigorously in 2014, will go down in flames and the Democrats will again control the House – 2006 redux. 

The problem, as PRAVDA says, is more long term.  We have an ignorant electorate that cannot see past the next entitlement check.  They don’t care that this country is becoming a krap sandwich.  Obama will continue to print money and buy their adoration.  The electorate is ignorant because we have an education system in this country that’s a complete joke.  We are not ‘teaching’ kids…. we are indoctrinating them.  Ask any (public) elementary school child who they voted for in November 6 and most will tell you Obama.  Used to be, school elections gave a good indication of how the voting would go BECAUSE KIDS HEARD THEIR PARENTS TALKING ABOUT WHO THEY WERE VOTING FOR AND DID LIKEWISE.  Now, even first graders are being told by their teachers how wonderful the liberal guy is, what he’s going to ‘give’ them, and how mean the conservatives are, and they vote accordingly. 

We are not going to take our country back without first taking our schools back.  Parents today have abdicated their parental responsibilities to government run schools.  Three meals a day, after-school child care, a disciplinary system that’s a joke, and textbooks that do NOT teach the true history of this country, let alone economics and how freedom works for all.  The long term solution for what ails America lies ultimately at the feet of parents, who are raising the next generation of leaders.

I have a friend in the Navy, stationed on the USS Iwo Jima.  It WAS headed for home port Norfolk and fathers of the sailors were invited to join their sons/daughters on board for the last couple of days into port.  They were to be flown out to board the vessel.  Don’t know if this is SOP but I think it’s really cool.

My friend’s father got an email today.  The boarding/visit has been cancelled.

The Iwo Jima – and it’s crew , including the 26^th MEU (with their assorted helicopters and Harriers) - has been ordered to ‘a new location – term:  indefinite’.  I can only guess where.  I also assume this isn’t classified, since the partents have been notified.

I fear things are about to get really ugly really fast.

One business owner has come up with his own way of surviving the implementation of Obamacare. 

John Metz, the owner of 48 Denny’s restaurants will be adding a 5% ‘Obamacare’ surcharge to each customer’s tab.  He is also reducing the wait staff to 30 hours a week. 

Elections have consequences.  I like what this man is choosing to do.  MORE private business owners need to follow suit by adding a surcharge and calling it what it is – the increased expense of doing business BECAUSE of Obamacare.  

The cost of doing business is nearly always passed on to the consumer in the form of higher prices, but these increases are never spelled out – they just happen.  Now, with the surcharge explained, maybe it will open some eyes.  People DO understand their pocketbooks!  And this IS the cost of that free healthcare people voted for!

John Kerry is married to Teresa Heinz Kerry [1995 – present, widow of Sen. John Heinz III, R-PA], a half billionaire, whom he married even though she was five years older than him – a practice which, while not unheard of, is certainly highly uncommon for a man who was in his 50s. And before that, he was married to his first wife, Julia Thorne [1970 – 1988, divorced/annulled], who, according to press reports, had a similarly huge fortune of over $100 million.

THE NAVAL WAR HERO

Attempting to bolster their accusations that Kerry misrepresented slight injuries to win Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star, the [Viet Nam Veterans for Truth] cite a March 13, 1969, incident for which the young lieutenant was decorated.

Two injuries – a small bruise on his right arm and a minor injury to his buttocks – won Kerry his Third Purple Heart and a trip home. However, the vets say, the wound to his buttocks was self-inflicted and should never have received Purple Heart consideration.

While Kerry claims the injury came from shrapnel from an underwater mine, Larry Thurlow, an officer on shore with Kerry that day, insists the wound was the result of Kerry’s decision to throw a concussion grenade into a rice pile. The “shrapnel,” he says, was actually rice pellets.

Sworn statements of those present say there was no hostile fire involved in this incident for which Kerry received his third Purple Heart and the coveted Bronze Star.

Once again, the vets insist there was no hostile fire involved, and, again, they say, Kerry’s very minor wound was self-inflicted.

According to the vets’ account, Kerry, Navy Lt. William Schachte, and an enlisted man were on a whaler.  “Seeing movement from an unknown source, the sailors opened fire on the movement,” the letter says. “There was no hostile fire. When Kerry’s rifle jammed, he picked up an M-79 grenade launcher and fired a grenade at a nearby object. This sprayed the boat with shrapnel from Kerry’s own grenade, a tiny piece of which embedded in Kerry’s arm.”  Upon examining Kerry’s injury, Dr. Lewis Letson says he asked Kerry why he was there.  Kerry reportedly told him he had been wounded by hostile fire. Letson removed the tiny fragment with tweezers and placed a Band-Aid over the scratch.

The next morning, Kerry went to see Division Commander Grant Hibbard to ask for the Purple Heart.

THE WAR PROTESTER

On the campaign trail [2004], presidential hopeful Sen. John Kerry regularly boasts about his Vietnam War combat experience, which earned him three purple hearts, plus the silver and bronze stars.

But the Massachusetts Democrat doesn't much discuss what he did after returning home, when he became a much-celebrated organizer for one of America's most radical anti-war groups and rubbed shoulders with the likes of 'Hanoi' Jane Fonda and former U.S. Attorney General Ramsey Clark.

As a rising star with Vietnam Veterans Against the War, Kerry attended a February 1971 seminar bankrolled by Fonda, who was the group's most prominent booster. Watching 125 self-proclaimed Vietnam veterans testify at a Detroit Howard Johnson's about atrocities committed by U.S. forces, the man who would be president later said he found the accounts shocking and irrefutable…

Even the most famous POW of all, Sen. John McCain, later revealed that his North Vietnamese captors used reports about the Kerry-led protest to taunt him and his fellow prisoners.

A few years later the ambitious Democrat found that his book documenting the celebrated peace protest had become something of a political liability.

"Suddenly, copies of ["The New Soldier"] became unavailable and even disappeared from libraries," one old-time Massachusetts hand told The New American Magazine in May.

THE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE

I saw courage both in the Vietnam War and in the struggle to stop it. I learned that patriotism includes protest, not just military service.  [9/2/2003 in South Carolina as he kicks off his campaign for the White House]

In September 2003, Kerry implied that voting against wartime funding bills was equivalent to abandoning the troops.

"I don't think any United States senator is going to abandon our troops and recklessly leave Iraq to whatever follows as a result of simply cutting and running," he said.

Then, in October 2003, a year after voting to support the use of force in Iraq, Kerry voted against an $87 billion supplemental funding bill for U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. He did support an alternative bill that funded the $87 billion by cutting some of President Bush's tax cuts.

But when it was apparent the alternative bill would not pass, he decided to go on record as not supporting the legislation to fund soldiers.

Kerry complicated matters with his now infamous words, "I actually did vote for the $87 billion before I voted against it."

On Wednesday, he acknowledged that his explanation of his Iraq war votes was "one of those inarticulate moments."
