SPECIAL ELECTION TUESDAY IN NY TO FILL THE WEINER SEAT

Davie Weprin (D, NY) running against Bob Turner (R, NY) for Anthony Weiner’s congressional seat in a special election on Tuesday, September 13.
Weprin was dealt a blow by fellow Democratic Assemblyman Dov Hikind, who endorsed Turner.  Hikind said that electing Turner would "send a message to President Obama about his failed, disastrous economic policies and his reckless policies toward Israel."  The bad blood between the two Democrats began when Weprin voted for gay marriage and compared opposing gay marriage to "outlawing marriages between Jews and non-Jews or interracial marriages.”

Both Hikind and Weprin hail from the 9th district's sizable Orthodox Jewish community.  (Turner is a Catholic, and he opposes gay marriage.)

A poll yesterday  [9/9/11] shows that Republican Bob Turner holds a six-point lead in next week's special election to replace disgraced former Rep. Anthony Weiner, D-N.Y  The Siena College poll shows voters in the overwhelmingly Democratic district are poised to deliver a stinging rebuke to President Obama and his party.  Six percent of likely voters in the Sept. 13th election are undecidedPublish Post.

A win by Turner would be historic.
