<<<< ROCK .......................... HARD PLACE >>>>

I spoke to a close friend last night.  He voted for Romney.  He has a great job with a 6-figure income, but he’s under the Obama magical threshold of $200,000.  Wife works a 20-hour a week ‘fun job’ and he has two small kids in elementary school.  He was distraught.  He had run an estimated ‘salary hit’ if nothing is done by Dec. 31 and all the taxes are allowed to go up.  He will take an $800.00+ a MONTH hit.  His mantra….. 'the Republicans cannot let this happen.  They have to cave.  We lost.'

We lost.

We lost, and it’s only just begun.  Already, Senate Democrats are out saying if we go over the fiscal cliff in January it will be the Republicans’ fault for not giving Obama what he wants – which is to raise taxes with no spending cuts.  And it WILL be the Republicans’ fault if they hold to their beliefs and don’t cave.

Just in the last 24 hours, Sen. Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R, KY) said raising/new taxes was a non-starter.  Read his lips:  no tax hikes.

‘If Republicans don’t go along with calls by President Obama for higher taxes and the nation goes off a fiscal cliff, then the GOP is to blame,' said US Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D, MD) on Tuesday.

Sadly we’re the minority in the Senate so all McConnell can do is talk.  But the House is Obama’s nemesis.  They can stop Obama.  But in doing so, the country will tank.  The House will rightly be blamed.  The press will pound this drum until 2014.  The Republicans will lose the House in the next Congressional elections.  Obama will control everything, and he will be off and running with no checks/balances.

OR…. The Republicans can cave to Obama’s plan and TRY to salvage something – specifically some spending cuts.  They will still have to cave but maybe it won’t be deadly.  The press will beat that drum into 2014:  “You ran on no tax hikes and you hiked taxes.”  But the fact is…. we lost.

Elections have consequences.  We lost.  Now it’s time to pay the piper.

[And a huge thank you to the 3,000,000 plus McCain voters from 2008 that either voted for Obama, voted third party, or simply sat on their ass and watched this happen.  My fervent prayer is that you are all working, tax-paying Americans rather than titsuckers.]
