JANUARY 22, 2009:
Obama Orders Secret
Prisons and Detention Camps Closed
Saying that “our ideals
give us the strength and moral high ground” to combat terrorism, President
Obama signed executive orders Thursday ending the Central Intelligence Agency’s
secret overseas prisons, banning coercive interrogation methods and closing the
Guantánamo Bay detention camp within a year.
AUGUST 31, 2011: GENERAL PERTAEUS RETIRES FROM ARMY
SEPTEMBER 6, 2011: DAVID PETRAEUS APPOINTED
DIRECTOR OF CIA
JANUARY 24, 2012: PUBLICATION OF ALL
IN: THE EDUCATION OF GENERAL DAVID PETRAEUS co-authored by Paula
Broadwell
MAY, 2012: Ms. Jill Kelley, a volunteer who organizes
social events for military personnel in the Tampa area, complained about the
emails to a friend who is an FBI agent. That agent referred it to a cyber
crimes unit, which opened an investigation.
The investigation led to Paula Broadwell and consequently to David
Petraeus.
JULY 28, 2012:
Speaking
in Aspen, CO Paula Broadwell said:
“I was embedded with Gen. Petraeus in Afghanistan,
and it was a little confusing to some of the folks there because I am also a
military reservist with a top secret FBI clearance and then some…. I had access
to everything, it was my experience not to leak it, not to violate my mentor,
if you will,” she said. “He was a very close mentor.”
JULY/AUGUST, 2012 (and PUBLISHED 11/12/2012): FRIENDS SAY
THAT PATRAEUS ENDED THE AFFAIR ABOUT FOUR MONTHS BEFORE THE ELECTION.
Steve Boylan, a friend and
former Petraeus spokesman, who spoke to Petraeus over the weekend [said]:
"Furious would be an
understatement," [speaking of Holly Petraeus after the news of the affair
came out] Boylan told ABC's "Good Morning America." He said Petraeus
ended the affair four months ago.
SEPTEMBER 11, 2012: ULTRACONSERVATIVE ISLAMIST
PROTESTERS CLIMBED THE WALLS OF THE UNITED STATES EMBASSY IN CAIRO ON TUESDAY
AND TOOK DOWN THE AMERICAN FLAG, REPLACING IT WITH A BLACK FLAG WITH AN ISLAMIC
INSCRIPTION TO PROTEST A MOVIE ATTACKING ISLAM'S PROPHET, MUHAMMAD. THE OBAMA FOREIGN SERVICE ISSUED AN APOLOGY
AT 6:17 EAST COAST TIME FOR A MOVIE
THAT TO THAT DAY HAD NOT BEEN VIEWED IN ITS ENTIRETY AND ONLY EXISTED AS A
TRAILER ON YOUTUBE.
"The
Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by
misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims – as we condemn
efforts to offend believers of all religions. Today, the 11th anniversary of
the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, Americans are
honoring our patriots and those who serve our nation as the fitting response to
the enemies of democracy. Respect for religious beliefs is a cornerstone of
American democracy. We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the
universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others."
About
four hours later, crowds began to form and over the next several hours, the
protesters stormed the embassy compound, destroyed a U.S. flag and replaced it
with an Islamic flag. About three hours later, according to the Washington
Examiner, the embassy tweeted, "This morning's condemnation (issued before
protest began) still stands. As does our condemnation of unjustified breach of
the Embassy." (This tweet has disappeared from the Embassy Twitter feed.)
The
U.S. embassy released its statement at least several hours before protesters
stormed the U.S. compound in Cairo -- and well before the attack in Libya took
place. So the statement was not made in response to the storming of the Cairo
embassy, nor to the killings in Benghazi.
SEPTEMBER ?, 2012: Broadwell interviewed by FBI,
at which time she surrendered her computer.
SEPTEMBER 11, 2012: ATTACK ON CONSULATE IN
BENGHAZI – FOUR AMERICANS KILLED
That
night in Libya, militants attacked U.S. facilities in Benghazi, eventually
killing the four diplomats. The news of the deaths was not announced by the
U.S. government until after 7:00 a.m. East Coast time on Sept. 12.
SEPTEMBER 11, 2012: PETRAEUS
The CIA Director David Petraeus knew of the
Benghazi attack by 4:00 pm EDT on September 11 and he knew it was an attack on
the CIA Annex in Benghazi. So what did the CIA Director do? He went to the
movies! (And it was a private screening!)
"Some senior
administration officials say they were surprised Mr. Petraeus went to that
night’s private Washington screening of the movie Argo, about a covert CIA
operation in 1979 in Tehran.”

SEPTEMBER 11, 2012: PENTAGON TIMELINE:
According to the
Pentagon's timeline, the military's Africa Command, based in Europe, ordered an
unmanned, unarmed surveillance drone diverted to the city in eastern Libya just
17 minutes after the attack on the consulate began about 9:42 p.m. local time (3:42 p.m. EDT), the first military
action in response to the incident. It took the drone more than an hour to
arrive at the scene.
Defense Secretary Leon Panetta's office was
notified of the attack 50 minutes after it began, and Panetta learned of it shortly thereafter as he
and the military's top general headed to a previously scheduled meeting with
President Barack Obama at the White House.
Obama, Panetta and Army
General Martin Dempsey, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, discussed
potential responses to the unfolding events in Benghazi during their meeting,
which began 78 minutes after the start of the Libya attack, according to the
timeline.
Panetta and Dempsey then
returned to the Pentagon and began a two-hour series of meetings with General
Carter Ham***, head of Africa Command, and other senior military leaders from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. EDT (12 a.m. to 2 a.m.
Libya time) to organize responses to the attack.
General [Carter] Ham as
head of AfriCOM received the same e-mails the White House received requesting
help/support as the attack was taking place. General Ham immediately had a
rapid response unit ready and communicated to the Pentagon that he had a unit
ready.
General Ham then received the order from
Panetta to stand down. His response was ‘screw it’, he was going to help
anyhow. Within 30 seconds to a minute after making the move to respond, his
second in command apprehended General Ham and told him that he was now relieved
of his command.

SEPTEMBER 11, 2012: CIA
TIMELINE: REVISED PENTAGON TIMELINE:
9:40 p.m
[3:40 EDT]: A senior State Department security officer at the U.S. Consulate in
Benghazi called the CIA base, at an annex about a mile away, and requested
assistance: “The compound is under attack. People are moving through the
gates.” CIA officers at the base can hear the alarm, and a team immediately
begins gathering weapons and preparing to leave.
9:42 p.m. -- Armed men begin their
assault on the U.S. Consulate.
9:59 p.m. -- A surveillance drone is
directed to fly over the U.S. compound, but it is unarmed.
10:04 p.m.
[4:04 p.m. EDT]: A six-person rescue squad from the agency’s Global Response
Staff (GRS) leaves in two vehicles. The
team leader is a career CIA officer; the
team includes a contractor named Tyrone Woods, who later died. During the
previous 24-minute interval, the CIA base chief calls the February 17 Brigade,
other militias and the Libyan intelligence service seeking vehicles with
.50-caliber machine guns. Nobody responds. The team leader and the base chief
agree at 10:04 that they can’t wait any longer, and the squad heads for the
consulate.
**
The first email, timed at 4:05 p.m. Washington time – or 10:05 p.m. Benghazi
time, 20-30 minutes after the attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission allegedly
began – carried the subject line “U.S. Diplomatic Mission in Benghazi Under
Attack” and the notation “SBU”, meaning “Sensitive But Unclassified.” The text said the State Department’s regional
security office had reported that the diplomatic mission in Benghazi was ‘under
attack’. Embassy in Tripoli reports approximately 20 armed people fired shots;
explosions have been heard as well.” **
10:10 p.m.
[4:10 p.m. EDT]: The rescue team reached a chaotic intersection a few blocks
from the consulate. Militias gathered there have several .50-caliber machine
guns, which the CIA team tries unsuccessfully to commandeer; three militiamen
offer to help. The rescue party now includes 10 people: six GRS officers, a CIA
translator and the three Libyan volunteers.
The senior
intelligence official said that he doesn’t know whether Woods or any of the
other team members agitated to go sooner but added that he wouldn’t be
surprised. “I want them to have a sense of urgency,” he said.
10:20 p.m.
[4:20 p.m. EDT]: A reconnaissance party of two GRS officers heads to the
consulate; at 10:25, three more GRS officers enter the main gate and begin
engaging the attackers. The firefight lasts about 15 minutes.
10:32 p.m. -- The Office of the
Secretary Defense and the Joint Staff are notified of the attack by the
National Military Command Center at the Pentagon. "The information is
quickly passed to Secretary Panetta and General Dempsey."
10:40 p.m.
[4:40 p.m. EDT]: Members of the CIA team enter the burning inferno of “Villa
C,” where Ambassador Christopher Stevens is believed to be hiding. CIA officers
try numerous times to reach the “safe room” but are driven back by the intense
smoke and fire. Small-arms fire continues from the Libyan attackers.
**A
second email, headed “Update 1: U.S. Diplomatic Mission in Benghazi” and timed
4:54 p.m. Washington time, said that the Embassy in Tripoli had reported that
“the firing at the U.S. Diplomatic Mission in Benghazi had stopped and the
compound had been cleared.” It said a “response team” was at the site
attempting to locate missing personnel.**
11:00 p.m. [5:00 p.m. EDT] -- Panetta
and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey meet with
President Obama at the White House where they discuss the unfolding situation
and how to respond. The meeting had been previously scheduled.
11:10 p.m. -- The surveillance drone
arrives over the Benghazi facility.
11:11 p.m.
[5:11 p.m. EDT]: An unarmed military Predator drone arrives over the compound
to provide aerial reconnaissance. The drone had been diverted from a mission
over Darnah, about 90 minutes away. But without weapons, it can’t help much.
11:15 p.m.
[5:15 p.m. EDT]: The CIA team puts a group of State Department officers into a
vehicle and sends it to the agency base; at 11:30, the CIA officers depart
under fire and reach the annex six minutes later.
11:30 p.m. [5:30 p.m. EDT]-- All
surviving U.S. personnel are evacuated from the consulate. U.S. Ambassador
Chris Stevens and State Department computer expert Sean Smith were killed in
the initial assault.
11:56 p.m.
[5:56 p.m. EDT]: CIA officers at the annex are attacked by a rocket-propelled
grenade and small arms. Sporadic attacks continue for about another hour. The
attacks stop at 1:01 a.m., and some assume the fight is over.
**A
third email, also marked SBU and sent at 6:07 p.m. Washington time, carried the
subject line: “Update 2: Ansar al-Sharia Claims Responsibility for Benghazi
Attack.” The message reported: “Embassy
Tripoli reports the group claimed responsibility on Facebook and Twitter and
has called for an attack on Embassy Tripoli.”**

Midnight to 2 a.m. [6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
EDT] -- Panetta and other senior leaders discuss possible options for further
violence if it were to break out. Panetta gives verbal orders for Marine
anti-terrorist teams from Rota, Spain, to prepare to deploy to Tripoli and
Benghazi. Panetta also orders a special operations force team training in
Croatia and an additional special operations force team in the United States to
prepare to deploy to a staging base in southern Italy.
[ed note: note that it's PANETTA doing all the ordering - WHERE WAS OBAMA????]
1:15 a.m. [7:15 p.m. EDT]: CIA reinforcements
arrive on a 45-minute flight from Tripoli in a plane they’ve hastily chartered.
The Tripoli team includes four GRS security officers, a CIA case officer and two
U.S. military personnel on loan to the agency. They don’t leave the Benghazi
airport until 4:30 a.m. The delay is caused by negotiations with Libyan
authorities over permission to leave the airport; obtaining vehicles; and the
need to frame a clear mission plan. The
first idea is to go to a Benghazi hospital to recover Stevens, who they rightly
suspect is already dead. (Also killed was a State Department communication
specialist.) But the hospital is surrounded by the al-Qaeda-linked Ansar
al-Sharia militia that mounted the consulate attack.
1:30 a.m. [7:30 p.m. EDT] -- A six-man
security team from the U.S. Embassy in Tripoli arrives in Benghazi.
2:39 a.m. to 2:53 a.m. -- The National
Military Command Center gives formal authorization for the deployment of the
two special operations force teams from Croatia and the United States.
5:04 a.m.
[11:04 p.m. EDT]: The team from Tripoli arrives at the CIA base. Glen Doherty,
one of the GRS men from Tripoli, goes to the roof and joins Woods in firing
positions.
5:15 a.m.
[11:15 p.m. EDT]: A new Libyan assault begins, this time with mortars. Two
rounds miss and the next three hit the roof. The rooftop defenders never “laser
the mortars,” as has been reported. They don’t know the weapons are in place
until the indirect fire begins, nor are the mortars observed by the drone
overhead. The defenders have focused their laser sights earlier on several
Libyan attackers, as warnings not to fire. At 5:26 the attack is over. Woods
and Doherty are dead and two others are wounded.
5:15 a.m. [11:15 p.m. EDT] -- Attackers launch assault
on a second U.S. facility in Benghazi. Two former U.S. Navy SEALs acting as
security contractors are killed. They are identified as Tyrone Woods and Glen
Doherty.
SEPTEMBER
12, 2012: 6 a.m.[ midnight EDT]: Libyan
forces from the military intelligence service finally arrive, now with 50
vehicles. They escort the Americans to the airport. A first group of 18,
including two wounded, depart at 7 a.m. A
second group of 12, plus the four dead, leave at 10 a.m. for Tripoli and then the long flight back to America.
6:05 a.m. [12:05 a.m. EDT] -- A C-17
aircraft in Germany is told to prepare to deploy to Libya to evacuate the
consulate personnel.
7:40 a.m. [1:40 a.m. EDT] -- The first
wave of Americans are evacuated to Tripoli via airplane.
10:00 a.m. [4:00 a.m. EDT] --
A second group, including those killed in the attack, are flown to Tripoli.
2:15 p.m. -- The C-17 departs from
Germany for the flight to Tripoli.
7:17 p.m. -- The C-17 leaves Tripoli
with the American consulate personnel and the bodies of Stevens, Smith, Woods
and Doherty.
7:57 p.m. -- The U.S. special operations
force team based in Croatia arrives at a staging base in Italy.
8:56 p.m. -- One of the Marine
anti-terrorist teams from Spain arrives in Tripoli.
9:28 p.m. -- The U.S.-based special
operations force team arrives at its staging base in Italy.

WHEREABOUTS:
“The president was updated
throughout the evening, and notified late Tuesday that Stevens was unaccounted
for. Obama
learned Wednesday that Stevens was confirmed dead Wednesday morning ,
the official said.
ED. NOTE: THE CIA SUSPECTED THAT STEVENS WAS DEAD IN
THE FIRST ATTACK – 7:15 P.M. WASHINGTON
TIME. BY MIDNIGHT D.C. TIME, STEVEN’S
BODY, ALONG WITH THREE OTHER DEAD AMERICANS, WERE LEAVING LIBYA ON THE FLIGHT
HOME….. YET OBAMA DIDN’T LEARN UNTIL WEDNESDAY MORNING THAT STEVENS WAS DEAD?
OBAMA WASN’T UPDATED BETWEEN 7:15 AND MIDNIGHT????
SEPTEMBER 12, 2012, 11:41 a.m.:
White House Press
Secretary Jay Carney released a quote from President Obama that said, "I
think most Americans, Democrats or Republicans, understand that there are times
where we set politics aside, and one of those is when we've got a direct threat
to American personnel who are overseas.
And so I think that if you look at how most Republicans have reacted,
most elected officials, they've reacted responsibly, waiting to find out the
facts before they talked, making sure that our number-one priority is the
safety and security of American personnel.
SEPTEMBER 12, 2012:
OBAMA GIVE A SPEECH IN THE MORNING IN THE ROSE GARDEN. The speech runs 5:32. There is ONE mention of the word TERROR in
the speech, at 4:15 into the speech.
FOLLOWING THE SPEECH, OBAMA LEAVES FOR LAS VEGAS FOR A CAMPAIGN EVENT.
He said that, "No acts of terror will ever shake the
resolve of this great nation, alter that character, or eclipse the light of the
values that we stand for" but did not say that the Benghazi attack
qualified or was being pursued as one.
SEPTEMBER 12, 2012:
OBAMA IN LAS VEGAS: "No act
of terror will dim the light of the values that we proudly shine on the rest of
the world, and no act of violence will shake the resolve of the United States
of America."
SEPTEMBER 12, 2012:
HILLARY CLINTON: "We are
working to determine the precise motivations and methods of those who carried
out this assault. Some have sought to justify this vicious behavior, along with
the protest that took place at our embassy in Cairo yesterday, as a response to
inflammatory material posted on the Internet. America's commitment to religious
tolerance goes back to the very beginning of our nation. But let me be clear:
There is no justification for this; none."
SEPTEMBER 12, 2012 AT A CAMPAIGN RALLY IN GOLDEN,
CO: "We are going to bring those
who killed our fellow Americans to justice. I want people around the world to
hear me, to all those who would do us harm: no act of terror will go
unpunished.”
SEPTEMBER 13, 2012:
FROM CNN”
Also unclear Wednesday was the significance of the timing of
the attack, which fell on the 11th anniversary of the September 11 attacks on
New York and Washington and coincided with a violent protest at the U.S.
Embassy in Cairo, Egypt.
State
Department officials said the two incidents at the diplomatic missions were not
related and said they believe the Benghazi violence was a "clearly planned
attack."
SEPTEMBER 14, 2012:
CIA
SAYS ATTACK IN BENGHAZI WAS SPONTANEOUS
According to reports, on Sept 13 the FBI and NCTC gave
briefings on Capital Hill in which they indicated the Sept 11 attacks had been
carried out by Al Qaeda or an "Al Qaeda-affiliated" group. The FBI
and NCTC briefing was based on "intercepts that included individuals,
believed to have participated in the attack, who were celebratory -- as well as
a claim of responsibility."
But the next day, Sept 14, Petraeus went to Capital Hill and
described the attack as something befitting a flash mob, "where the
militants showed up spontaneously with RPGs."
SEPTEMBER 14, 2012:
JAY CARNEY:
Q On the Libya
attacks, was there any intelligence in advance that some kind of attack could
take place, especially because so many embassies were taking precautions
because of 9/11? Was there any advance
warning at all?
MR.
CARNEY: I have seen that report, and the
story is absolutely wrong. We were not
aware of any actionable intelligence indicating that an attack on the U.S.
mission in Benghazi was planned or imminent.
That report is false.
SEPTEMBER 16, 2012: U.N. AMBASSADOR SUSAN RICE
MAKES THE ROUNDS OF THE SUNDAY TALK SHOWS, SAYING THE LIBYA ATTACK WAS NOT
PREMEDITATED
"There
was a hateful video that was disseminated on the Internet. It had nothing to do
with the United States government, and it's one that we find disgusting and
reprehensible. It's been offensive to many, many people around the world. That
sparked violence in various parts of the world, including violence directed
against Western facilities including our embassies and consulates." [on
CNN]
On
CBS' "Face the Nation," Rice also said that, "We do not have
information at present that leads us to conclude that this was premeditated or
preplanned."
SEPTEMBER 18, 2012 [ONE WEEK AFTER THE ATTACK] – JAY CARNEY:
"Our
belief, based on the information we have, is it was the video that caused the unrest in
Cairo, and the video and the unrest in Cairo that helped -- that precipitated
some of the unrest in Benghazi and elsewhere. What other factors were involved
is a matter of investigation."
SEPTEMBER 19, 2012:
Director of the National
Counterterrorism Center Matthew Olson, responding to a question by Senate
Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Chairman Joe Lieberman on whether
the attack was a terrorist attack:
“They
were killed in the course of a terrorist attack on our embassy. … At this
point, what I would say is that a number of different elements appear to have
been involved in the attack, including individuals connected to militant groups
that are prevalent in eastern Libya, particularly the Benghazi area, as well we
are looking at indications that individuals involved in the attack may have had
connections to al Qaeda or al Qaeda affiliates, in particular al Qaeda in the
Islamic Maghreb.” Olson also said U.S. officials had no “specific evidence of
significant advanced planning.”
SEPTEMBER 20, 2012:
President Obama at a town
hall meeting organized by the Spanish-language Univsion Network, responding to
a question about the possible involvement of al Qaeda:
“What
we do know is that the natural protests that arose because of the outrage over
the video
were used as an excuse by extremists to see if they can also directly harm U.S.
interests.”
SEPTEMBER 21, 2012: HILLARY CLINTON IN PAKISTAN:
"What
happened in Benghazi was a terrorist attack."
SEPTEMBER 23, 2012: OBAMA INTERVIEW WITH CBS:
“Oh
I think that, you know, as president I bear responsibility for everything -- to
some degree.” -- President Obama
SEPTEMBER 25, 2012: OBAMA ADDRESS
TO UNITED NATIONS GENERAL ASSEMBLY [FULL
CONTEXT AT http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/09/25/transcript-obama-address-to-un-general-assembly/
] THE WORD ‘VIDEO’ WAS USED 6 TIMES IN
THAT SPEECH [as an aside, he used the word TERRORIST once]:
And
that is what we saw play out in the last two weeks, where a crude and
disgusting video
sparked outrage throughout the Muslim world.
Now, I have made it clear that the United States government had nothing
to do with this video,
and I believe its message must be rejected by all who respect our common
humanity. It is an insult not only to
Muslims, but to America as well.
For
as the city outside these walls makes clear, we are a country that has welcomed
people of every race and every faith. We
are home to Muslims who worship across our country. We not only respect the
freedom of religion, we have laws that protect individuals from being harmed
because of how they look or what they believe.
We
understand why people take offense to this video because millions of our citizens are among
them. I know there are some who ask why
don't we just ban such a video. The
answer is enshrined in our laws. Our
Constitution protects the right to practice free speech….
There
are no words that excuse the killing of innocents. There is no video
that justifies an attack on an embassy.
There is no slander that provides an excuse for people to burn a
restaurant in Lebanon, or destroy a school in Tunis, or cause death and
destruction in Pakistan….
We
do not expect other nations to agree with us on every issue. Nor do we assume
that the violence of the past weeks or the hateful speech by some individuals
represent the views of the overwhelming majority of Muslims any more than the
views of the people who produced this video represents those of Americans.
SEPTEMBER 25, 2012: OBAMA ON THE VIEW:
ABC
airs the television show The View, in which Obama is asked about Clinton's
statement. "We don't have all of the information yet so we are still
gathering," he says. He says there is "no doubt" that "it
wasn't just a mob action."
"What
we do know is that the natural protests that arose because of the outrage over
the video
were used as an excuse by extremists to see if they can also directly harm U.S.
interests," he says.
SEPTEMBER 26, 2012: MSNBC:
Libyan president: ‘No
doubt’ attack was terrorism… In an NBC News exclusive, Libya's President
Mohammed Magarief tells NBC’s Ann Curry that no mastermind has been arrested in
the attack on the US Consulate in Benghazi but that he believes it was a
pre-planned act of terrorism involving elements of al-Qaida
SEPTEMBER 27, 2012: DEFENSE SECRETARY LEON PANETTA:
"I
think it pretty clearly was a terrorist attack.
As we determined the details of what took place there and how that
attack took place, it became clear that there were terrorists who had planned
that attack."
SEPTEMBER 27, 2012: FROM CNN:
A
senior U.S. official tells CNN that it became clear within about a day of the
Benghazi attack that it been the work of terrorists.
Separately,
CNN National Security Analyst Fran Townsend reports that a law enforcement
source told her that "from day one, we had known clearly that this was a
terrorist attack."
SEPTEMBER 28, 2012: Statement by the Director of
Public Affairs for ODNI, Shawn Turner, on the intelligence related to the
terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya
“In
the aftermath of the terrorist attack on U.S. personnel and facilities in
Benghazi, Libya, the Intelligence Community launched a comprehensive effort to
determine the circumstances surrounding the assault and to identity the
perpetrators. We also reviewed all available intelligence to determine if there
might be follow-on attacks against our people or facilities in Libya or
elsewhere in the world…”
OCTOBER 2, 2012: JAY CARNEY:
“I
can tell you that from the moment our facility was attacked in Benghazi, the
president’s focus has been on securing our diplomats and facilities in Libya
and around the world, and on bringing the killers to justice. At every step of
the way, the administration has based its public statements on the best
assessments that were provided by the intelligence community. As the
intelligence community learned more information, they updated Congress and the
American people on it.”
OCTOBER 9, 2012:
During a background briefing with reporters, a senior State Department official
responding to a question about whether the attack was a spontaneous assault
taking advantage of a demonstration over the movie:
“That
is a question that you would have to ask, have to ask others. That was not,
that was not our conclusion. I’m not saying that we had a conclusion.”
The
background briefing contains detailed information about the attack, including
how dozens of armed men stormed the complex as Stevens and two security team
members took refuge in a fortified room.
“The
lethality and the number of armed people is unprecedented,” one official said.
“There had been no attacks like that anywhere in Libya — Tripoli, Benghazi or
anywhere — in the time that we had been there. And so it is unprecedented, in
fact, it would be very, very hard to find precedent for an attack like (it) in
recent diplomatic history.”
OCTOBER 10, 2012: Under Secretary of State for
Management Pat Kennedy, in congressional testimony:
“No one in the administration has
claimed to know all the answers. We have always made clear that we are giving
the best information we have at the time, and that information has evolved.”
In the same hearing, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for
International Programs Charlene Lamb testified that the State Department “had
the correct number of assets in Benghazi at the time.”OCTOBER 10, 2012: ABC INTERVIEW, OBAMA SAID:
“The information may not have always
been right the first time. And as soon as it turns out that we have a fuller
picture of what happened, then that was disclosed.”
http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/president-obama-vows-determined-performance-debate/story?id=17442090&page=2OCTOBER 10, 2012: JAY CARNEY AT PRESS BRIEFING: Responding to questions about whether administration officials had misled the public because they did not want to acknowledge a terrorist attack:
“The president of the United States
referred to it as an act of terror immediately after it occurred.”
“I never said we don’t know if it’s
terrorism. There was an issue about the definition of terrorism. This is by
definition an act of terror, as the president made clear.”

OCTOBER 10, 2012:
I [Ronald Kessler,
NEWSMAX] was contacted by a longtime FBI source who told me that a bureau
investigation had uncovered Petraeus’ affair with a journalist and that it
could potentially jeopardize national security.
The veteran agent related
to me that FBI agents assigned to the case were outraged by what were they were
told by senior officials: The FBI was going to hold in limbo their findings
until after the election.
“The decision was made to
delay the resignation apparently to avoid potential embarrassment to the
president before the election,” an FBI source told me. “To leave him in such a
sensitive position where he was vulnerable to potential blackmail for months
compromised our security and is inexcusable.”
My source said the FBI had
been investigating the matter since last spring and the probe was considered
among the most sensitive investigations the bureau was handling.
Both FBI Director Robert
S. Mueller III and the Justice Department were aware of the investigation,
according to my source. The source did not specifically know whether Obama,
Attorney General Eric Holder or FBI Director Mueller had given the order to
delay taking action until after the election.
However, Mueller meets at
least once a week with the president and routinely informs him of highly
sensitive investigations and threats. An FBI investigation of the CIA director
should have been at the top of that list.
In fact, it would have
been a scandal if the FBI had not informed the president or the attorney
general of an investigation of the CIA director.
Last Friday [11/9], the
White House announced that Petraeus had resigned over an extramarital affair.
At the time, I was completing my own investigation into the matter based on
what my source had told me.
On the same day, my report
for Newsmax, "FBI Investigation Led to Petraeus Resignation,"
revealed for the the first time that an an FBI investigation of Petraeus'
emails had triggered his resignation.
Since then, the White
House has claimed that the president was surprised when told of the FBI
investigation two days after the election.
If the president genuinely
did not know about the probe, it would constitute malfeasance by the White
House. But my FBI sources doubt the order to suppress the probe’s findings
until after the election — while taking a chance with the nation’s security —
was made by the bureau.
OCTOBER 11, 2012: VICE-PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE IN
WHICH BIDEN SAID HE AND OBAMA HAD NOT BEEN BRIEFED ABOUT THE SECURITY PROBLEM
IN BENGHAZI.
OCTOBER 12, 2012: JAY CARNEY ON BIDEN’S COMMENT
IN THE DEBATE:
“The
vice president was speaking about himself, and the president and the White
House. He was not referring to the administration, clearly, since there was a
public hearing for four and a half hours where it was discussed openly by
individuals working at the State Department requests that were made.”
OCTOBER 12, 2012: Biden Admits Obama is Arming
Muslim Brotherhood to Take Over Syria
VICE
PRESIDENT BIDEN: “Let — let — let me — you don’t go through the U.N. We are in
the process now and have been for months in making sure that help, humanitarian
aid, as well as other aid and training, is getting to those forces that we
believe, the Turks believe, the Jordanians believe, the Saudis believe are the
free forces inside of Syria. That is underway”
… Saudi Arabia and Turkey,
both Islamist countries, and Jordan which is a pawn, determine which Syrian
rebels get “other aid”, presumably weapons, and the training to use them. That Obama is arming and training, directly
or indirectly, the Syrian rebels, would be an important revelation…
OCTOBER 15, 2012: HILLARY CLINTON IN AN
INTERVIEW WITH CNN
“I
take responsibility. I'm in charge of the State Department's 60,000-plus people
all over the world, 275 posts. The president and the vice president wouldn't be
knowledgeable about specific decisions that are made by security professionals.
They're the ones who weigh all of the threats and the risks and the needs and
make a considered decision.” --
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton while in Lima, Peru
OCTOBER 16, 2012: BENGHAZI WAS A ‘MISSION’ – NOT A
CONSULATE
The security officials
divulged the building[in Benghazi] was routinely used by Stevens and others to
coordinate with the Turkish, Saudi and Qatari governments on supporting the
insurgencies in the Middle East, most prominently the rebels opposing Assad’s
regime in Syria.
Among the tasks performed
inside the building was collaborating with Arab countries on the recruitment of
fighters – including jihadists – to target Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria.
OCTOBER 16, 2012: SECOND PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE:
“The
day after the attack, governor, I stood in the Rose Garden and I told the
American people in the world that we are going to find out exactly what
happened; that this was an act of terror. And I also said that we’re going to
hunt down those who committed this crime.”
-- Barack Obama
OCTOBER 18, 2010: OBAMA ON THE JON STEWART SHOW:
JON
STEWART: "Is part of the investigation helping the communication between
these divisions of security? Not just what happened in Benghazi, but what
happened within. Because I would say, even you would admit, it was not the
optimal response, at least to the American people, as far as us all being on
the same page."
PRESIDENT
OBAMA: "Here's what I’ll say. If four Americans get killed, it’s not
optimal. And we’re going to fix it, all of it. And what happens, during the
course of a presidency, is that the government is a big operation and any given
time something screws up. And you make sure that you find out what’s broken and
you fix it. And whatever else I'll have done throughout the course of my
presidency, one thing that I’ve been absolutely clear about is that America’s
security comes first, and the American people need to know exactly how I make
decisions when it comes to war, peace, national security, and protecting
Americans. And they will continue to get that over the next four years of my
presidency."
OCTOBER 18, 2012: FROM THE
‘STARS AND STRIPES’”
President Barack Obama
will nominate Army Gen. David Rodriguez to succeed Gen. Carter Ham as commander
of U.S. Africa Command and Marine Lt. Gen. John Paxton to succeed Gen. Joseph
Dunford as assistant commandant of the Marine Corps, Defense Secretary Leon
Panetta announced Thursday.
OCTOBER 24, 2012:
Five days into the
Benghazi scandal, when no one was saying anything, I [GLENN BECK] presented a
theory…I told you that [Ambassador Stevens] was involved in running guns, and he was running guns to al-Qaeda
in Libya, and he was running guns through Turkey into Syria. And whether it was a deal that went bad, I
don’t know, but that’s what happened.
And the White House knew…And while everyone else was arguing about
whether it was a videotape or not, we were furthering the story.
Today we have evidence
that is staggering. We now have a memo
posted [at] TheBlaze…to the White House two hours after the attacks began. Last night on the TV show I laid it out
again…exactly what happened, when. At
1:00, or 12:54 in the afternoon on September 11, the White House was warned
that somebody was watching the Benghazi safe house– and so you know, do not let
any member of the press get away with calling this an embassy safe house. It is not.
It was a CIA safe house. Now why,
in the most dangerous place in one of the most dangerous parts of the world, on
Sept. 11…why would he be at a CIA safe house? …We now know he was having dinner
with the general counsel of Turkey.
OCTOBER 25, 2012: LEON PANETTA TO PENTAGON
REPORTERS:
On October
25 2012, defending why the Obama administration did not send help to the
besieged U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, Obama’s Secretary of Defense Leon
Panetta made this interesting statement to Pentagon reporters:
“(The) basic principle is that you don’t deploy forces into
harm’s way without knowing what’s going on; without having some real-time
information about what’s taking place. And as a result of not having that kind
of information, the commander who was on the ground in that area, Gen. [Carter]
Ham, [Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff] Gen. [Martin] Dempsey and I felt
very strongly that we could not put forces at risk in that situation.”
The first
thing to note about what Panetta said is that HE LIED about the administration
not having “real-time information about what’s taking place”.
Last
Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Tony Shaffer said on
television that his sources say Barack Obama was in the White House situation
room watching the Benghazi attack in real time.
OCTOBER 26, 2012:
PAULA BROADWELL MAY HAVE DIVULGED SENSITIVE INFORMATION IN A SPEECH AT
UNIVERSITY OF DENVER:
She
stated: “Now I don’t know if a lot of you heard this, but the CIA annex had
actually had taken a couple of Libya militia members prisoner. And they think
that the attack on the consulate was an effort to try to get these prisoners
back. So that’s still being vetted.”
OCTOBER 27, 2012:
NAVY ADMIRAL FIRED FOR TRYING TO HELP IN BENGHAZI – SAME AS ARMY GENERAL
In an
unusual move, the Navy has replaced an admiral commanding an aircraft carrier
strike group while it is deployed to the Middle East. The replacement was prompted by an Inspector
General’s investigation of allegations of inappropriate leadership judgment.
Rear Adm.
Charles M. Gaouette, the commander of the USS John C. Stennis strike group, is
being returned to the United States for temporary reassignment.
In a
statement the Navy said it had approved a request made by Vice Adm. John W.
Miller, the Commander of U.S. Naval Forces Central Command, to temporarily
reassign Gaouette “pending the results
of an investigation by the Navy Inspector General.”
OCTOBER 27, 2012: RUMORS ABOUND WHY GEN. CARTER HAM, AFRICOM
COMMANDER, WAS FIRED
The
latest rumor making the rounds is that Barack Obama replaced General Carter Ham
at AFRICOM after the general made a move to help the US security officials at
the Benghazi consulate and annex. Ham was replaced by Gen. David Rodriquez on
October 18.
OCTOBER 28, 2012: GENERAL HAM:
This
comes from an interview with Republican Congressman Jason Chaffetz who sits on
two Homeland Security subcommittees relaying the responses from General Carter
Ham heading up the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) who had direct
responsibility for the [Benghazi] situation.
General
Ham told Chaffetz that the forces were available, but that no order to use them
was given. Defense Secretary Panetta had claimed that the refusal to use force
had come from him, General Dempsey and General Ham.
General
Ham appears to have broken with that story and is taking no responsibility for
the decision not to bail out the consulate and the Navy SEALS. There have been
rumors that General Ham has been fired
or forced out. [ED. NOTE: HE WAS FIRED ON 10/18] There is no way to confirm
them at this point until they come from more reliable sources. Even major sites
are running things based on internet forum rumors or speculation with nothing
behind it. And that’s not the way to go. It’s the way to sabotage the
investigation of this story which is to proceed from known information and tie
it together with reliable reports.
That
said, Ham’s premature departure raises certain questions, as does his
willingness to dissent from the official story. Panetta tried to pass the buck
to the generals. General Demspey only lightly touched it. Ham seems to not want
to touch it all. Since the decision was made by Panetta and possibly Obama,
that’s the right thing to do.
MUST READ:
OCTOBER 29, 2012:
After numerous flips and
flops by the Obama administration, which originally attempted to paint the
incident as a Muslim outcry over an anti-Islamic video, whistle blowers
throughout the U.S. government, including within the White House, the State
Department, national intelligence agencies and the U.S. military have made
available stunning details that suggest not only did operational commanders
have live visual and audio communications from drones overhead and intelligence
assets on the ground, but that some commanders within the military were
prepared to go-it-alone after being told to “stand down.”
Africom commanding officer
U.S. General Carter Ham, after being ordered to essentially surrender control
of the situation to alleged Al Queda terrorists and let Americans on the ground
die, made the unilateral decision to
ignore orders from the Secretary of Defense and activated special operations
teams at his disposal for immediate deployment to the area.
According to reports, once
the General went rogue he was arrested within minutes by his second in command
and relieved of duty.
NOVEMBER 2, 2012: FBI CONCLUDES THE PETRAEUS
INVESTIGATION
NOVEMBER 3, 2012:
Why, three days after this
terrorist attack [SEPTEMBER 14, 2012] that killed four Americans in Benghazi,
did Petraeus go before the House Intelligence Committee and brief lawmakers
that a Youtube video was to blame for a "spontaneous" protest --
wholly fictitious -- that "went on,"
NOVEMBER 6, 2012: OBAMA RE-ELECTED; DIRECTOR OF
NATIONAL INTELLIGENCE, JAMES R. CLAPPER WAS TOLD OF THE PETRAEUS AFFAIR AT 5:00
p.m. CLAPPER ADVISED PETRAEUS TO RESIGN.
NOVEMBER 7, 2012: JAMES CLAPPER ADVISES THE
WHITE HOUSE OF THE PETRAEUS AFFAIR
NOVEMBER 8, 2012: PETRAEUS TENDERS HIS
RESIGNATION TO PRESIDENT OBAMA. THE U.S.
OFFICIAL WHO CONFIRMED THIS INFORMATION [TO THE L.A. TIMES] “said the White
House was not aware of the FBI email investigation until Wednesday, noting that
it is not briefed on "every routine investigation." The U.S. official
explained that this was an "unrelated investigation" that had pulled
in Petraeus.”
NOVEMBER 9, 2012: OBAMA ACCEPTS PETRAEUS’
RESIGNATION
NOVEMBER 10, 2012: NEWS BREAKS THAT DAVID PETRAEUS
HAS RESIGNED AS DIRECTOR OF THE CIA DUE TO INAPPROPRIATE CONDUCT
There is also speculation that the ‘mission’
was being used to not only coordinate opposition to Bashar al-Assad, leader
under fire in Syria, but also TO RUN GUNS TO THESE REBELS!
NOVEMBER 10, 2012: THERE IS NO ‘CONSULATE’ IN
BENGHAZI.
Note in the quoted emails
sent from Benghazi during the attacks always referred to the compound as a
‘MISSION’. Jay Carney also refers to the
facility as a ‘mission’ – NOT a consulate.
NOVEMBER 10, 2012:
The law enforcement
officials did not provide an exact timeline for the investigation, but they
said that the inquiry started at least several weeks ago. They said
investigators thought they were dealing with a routine harassment case until
they discovered the e-mails were traced to a private e-mail account belonging
to Petraeus.
A senior military source
said:
I’ve
known her [BROADWELL] for a few years, probably five or six. When she started
work on the bio she called me for background on one of the general’s previous
deployments. I probably gave her four hours or so, and we stayed in touch after
that by email and an occasional phone call. Over that time, she went from
someone very likeable to a shameless self-promoting prom queen. A very
disturbing shift in how she carried herself. If she knew P4 [PETRAEUS] was
going to make an appearance at an event, she’d crash it without an invitation
(she actually did this at the wedding of some close friends of mine) and photo
bomb[ed] sic everyone there.
NOVEMBER 10, 2012:
…the woman who received
the threatening e-mails [KELLEY] from Broadwell wasn’t a family member but she
also wasn’t a government official. That makes me think the e-mails must have
been truly hair-raising. The threshold for the FBI to take up a
cyber-harassment case between what at first appeared to be two random private
citizens must be high. What did Broadwell say in those e-mails to make the feds
take this so seriously?
NOVEMBER 11, 2011: REPORTED:
EMAILS LEAD TO
PAULA BROADWELL: 37-year-old Jill Kelley
in Tampa, Fla., received the emails from Petraeus biographer Paula Broadwell
that triggered an FBI investigation.
[SEVERAL ARTICLES HAVE
INTIMATED THAT MS. KELLEY WAS ALSO ‘INVOLVED’ WITH THE GENERAL BUT I HAVE NO
SUBSTANTIATION – I also can’t find dates for the FBI’s investigation of these
emails]
Kelley serves as an unpaid
social liaison to MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, where the military's Central
Command and Special Operations Command are located. Staffers for Petraeus said
Kelley and her husband were regular guests at events he held at Central Command
headquarters.
http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?section=news/national_world&id=8882204
NOVEMBER 11, 2012:
Ms. Kelley was the State
Department's liaison to the military's Joint Special Operations Command. The
FBI probe began several months ago with a complaint against Broadwell. That
investigation led to Broadwell's email account, which uncovered the
relationship with Petraeus.
NOVEMBER 11, 2012: SEE OCTOBER 10, 2012 ABOVE
FBI agents investigating CIA
Director David Petraeus's affair were shocked when told by bureau officials
that despite the national security implications, no action would be taken on
their findings until after the presidential election: Only then would President
Obama ask for Petraeus’ resignation.
The White House claims
President Obama and his national security advisors were first informed of the
Petraeus' affair on Thursday, two days after the election.
But the official timeline
strains credulity. Senior FBI officials suppressed disclosure of the highly
sensitive case, apparently to avoid embarrassment to Obama during his
re-election campaign.
NOVEMBER 11, 2012:
The Obama administration
first learned of the affair in a phone call from the FBI to Director of
National Intelligence James Clapper at 5 p.m. on election night, according to a
senior U.S. intelligence official.
On Saturday, questions
arose about why congressional leaders were not informed of the investigation
immediately.
According to a
congressional aide familiar with the matter, the House and Senate intelligence
committees weren't informed that there was an FBI investigation into the
situation until Friday [11/9].
NOVEMBER 12, 2012:
The FBI agent who started
the case was a friend of Jill Kelley, the Tampa woman who received harassing,
anonymous emails that led to the probe, according to officials. Ms. Kelley, a
volunteer who organizes social events for military personnel in the Tampa area,
complained in May about the emails to a friend who is an FBI agent. That agent
referred it to a cyber crimes unit, which opened an investigation.
However, supervisors soon
became concerned that the initial agent might have grown obsessed with the
matter, and prohibited him from any role in the investigation, according to the
officials.
That same agent, after
being barred from the case, contacted a member of Congress, Washington
Republican David Reichert, because he was concerned senior FBI officials were
going to sweep the matter under the rug, the officials said. That information
was relayed to top congressional officials, who notified FBI headquarters in
Washington.
A day after the Nov. 6
election, intelligence officials presented their findings to the White House.
Mr. Petraeus met with White House officials last Thursday and announced his
resignation the following day.
NOVEMBER 12, 2012:
Ms. Kelley received an
appreciation certificate on which she was referred to as an “honorary
ambassador” to the coalition, but she has no official status and is not
employed by the U.S. government.
NOVEMBER 12, 2012:
In a statement Sunday,
[Jill] Kelley and her husband, Scott, said: "We and our family have been
friends with Gen. Petraeus and his family for over five years. We respect his
and his family's privacy and want the same for us and our three children."
NOVEMBER 12, 2012:
The Central Intelligence
Agency denied charges Sunday that its annex in Benghazi, Libya secretly held a
few jihadi prisoners until it was destroyed in the Sept. 11, 2012 attack. Paula
Broadwell, the girlfriend then-CIA chief Gen. David Petraeus, made that claim
during an Oct. 26 speech in Denver, Colo.
[This is the statement
that led the FBI to suspect Petraeus might have been compromised.]
NOVEMBER 12, 2012:
FOX News Confirms Benghazi
Annex was Used to Hold Al Qaeda Terrorists
Jennifer Griffin at FOX
News today confirmed that the US was holding prisoners at the Benghazi annex
near the consulate compound. US agents handed three prisoners over to Libyan
authorities on their way out of the city on September 12. The prisoners may
have been held in the compound for several days.
Paula Broadwell leaked
information on the US annex prisoners in a speech she gave at Denver University
in October. [Was this the cause of the
attack?]
NOVEMBER 12, 2012:
During the revolution
against Gadhafi’s regime, the U.S. admitted to directly arming the rebel
groups.
IN CONCLUSION….. I
received this email today…. IMO it
contains a more credible explanation of the events of the last year. The author is retired MI.
[This was my conclusion
w/in a few hours of the breaking Petraeus news. He outed himself, rather than
risk committing perjury and further dishonoring himself, his family and his
country. I expect that once he testifies before Congress, he will go all out,
doing at least that much to help to restore his reputation and perhaps help to
bring down Soetero. He'll go down in history as a truly wounded warrior, but a
true American in the end. That's what I think will happen, and it should be
sooner rather than later.- CB]
Among certain Army
Officers, this is the talk. For several years, it was known by the WH that
Petraeus had a mistress. It was not raised as a "big deal," however,
the issue was subtly held over his head. Petraeus had disagreements with the WH
over the handling of Afghanistan, and he was told to get in line, or else. The termination of General McChrystal was
offered as an example of Petraeus' fate. Petraeus continued to battle with
Obama and the WH over the handling of Afghanistan. As a result, Obama ordered
Eric Holder to sick the FBI on Petraeus to find dirt to blackmail him into
submission and silence. The CIA position
was given to Petraeus to insure his cooperation and silence---so Obama thought.
Petraeus still refused to
play ball with Obama. After Benghazi-Gate, Petraeus notified the WH that the
CIA would be releasing facts re the incident and he would testify under oath to
the same (all damaging to the Obama and the WH.) Petraeus was, again,
threatened. This time, though, Petraeus was so pissed off that Obama had let
CIA personnel and the Ambassador die, that he outed himself and resigned,
rather than be blackmailed about the matter by Obama. Thereafter, Obama ordered him to wait until
after the election, but before the Congressional hearings to resign. Obama, the WH, and the FBI have already
concocted cover stories and allegations to counter Petraeus.
How many of our Generals
and Admirals will be punished for standing up to Obama's incompetence and
corruption?
NOVEMBER 13, 2012:
Syndicated
columnist Charles Krauthammer on Tuesday said the White House used David
Petraeus’s affair to get the CIA director to give testimony about the attacks
on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, that was in line with the
administration’s position on the matter.
CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER: I think the really shocking
news today was that General Petraeus thought and hoped he could keep his job.
He thought that it might and it would be kept secret, and that he could stay in
his position. I think what that tells us is really important. It meant that he
understood that the FBI obviously knew what was going on. He was hoping that
those administration officials would not disclose what had happened, and
therefore hoping that he would keep his job. And that meant that he understood
that his job, his reputation, his legacy, his whole celebrated life was in the
hands of the administration, and he expected they would protect him by keeping
it quiet.
And
that brings us to the ultimate issue, and that is his testimony on September
13. That’s the thing that connects the two scandals, and that’s the only thing
that makes the sex scandal relevant. Otherwise it would be an exercise in
sensationalism and voyeurism and nothing else. The reason it’s important is
here’s a man who knows the administration holds his fate in its hands, and he
gives testimony completely at variance with what the Secretary of Defense had
said the day before, at variance with what he’d heard from his station chief in
Tripoli, and with everything that we had heard. Was he influenced by the fact
that he knew his fate was held by people within the administration at that
time?
NOVEMBER 13, 2012:
Three
days after Paula Broadwell of Charlotte emerged at the center of national
controversy, FBI agents spent four hours Monday night [11/12/12] searching her
family’s Dilworth home.
Authorities
said the FBI was not conducting a raid at the home, but that Broadwell
consented to a search of the property.
Just
after 1 a.m., about eight FBI agents came out of the house with a half-dozen
file boxes, a Dell PC, an iMac, a briefcase and a printer. The agents left at
1:09 a.m. The agents declined to comment on what they found.
NOVEMBER 16, 2012: PETRAEUS TESTIFIES IN CLOSED HOUSE/SENATE
COMMITTEES: THE ATTACK WAS TERRORISTS;
SUSAN RICE’S TALKING POINTS WERE ALTERED BEFORE HER APPEARANCE ON THE SUNDAY
SHOWS .
PETRAEUS
TESTIFIED THAT HE KNEW LIBYA WAS TERRORISM FROM THE START, REP. PETER KING
REVEALS
“General
Petraeus’ testimony today was that from the start he told us that this was a
terrorist attack, that terrorists were involved from the start,” King told
reporters after the closed-door hearing before the House intelligence
committee. “I told him in my question I had a very different recollection of
that.”
King
added, “The clear impression we were given was that the overwhelming amount of
evidence was that it arose out of a spontaneous demonstration and it was not a
terrorist attack…he has I think a different impression of the impressions he
left on Sept. 14.”
King
said a CIA analyst with Petraeus testified that the agency’s talking points for
the White House immediately after the attack were specific about Al-Qaeda
terrorist involvement but that the line was apparently removed from the final
version of events.

THERE WERE TROOPS AVAILABLE TO INTERCEDE AT THE MISSION COMPOUND IN BENGHAZI!!!!
On the night of the deadly
attack on the U.S. consulate in Libya, a team of American military commandos
was sent from Europe to an airfield at Sigonella, in Sicily, Italy, putting
them at least an hour's flight away from Benghazi, CBS News has learned.
The team, known as the
Commander's In-extremis Force, was designed specifically for quick reaction to
unforeseen emergencies. But U.S. officials say it did not arrive in Sicily
until after the attack was over.
The link below gives the impression that Gen. Ham is STILL the AFRICOM commander as recently as 2/8/13
Holy crap. I really got nothing...just...slack jawed.
